I love the outdoors. I also love web design and photography, and it’s a pretty safe bet that you’ll find me involved in at least one of these at any given time. When I’m not inside working on web design or photography, you’ll find me outside rock climbing, hiking or biking.
I graduated from James Madison University in 2006, which a degree in Media Arts and Design. My concentration was in Digital Video, where I did a lot of filming and editing video for short films and other projects. I also received a minor in Film Studies, breaking down and analyzing some of the greatest films ever produced.
I work for a small marketing and advertising firm where I am involved in everything from print design and web development to photography and video production for local, small businesses.
At this stage in my life, photography is nothing more than a recreational hobby. I’ll take my camera with me on out-of-town weekend escapes from the Washington DC area, and I do some gallery/portfolio photography for friends. Some days I’m overly enthusiastic about snapping photos, and other days I want to step away from it all and leave the camera at home. Right now, that is okay with me. But in the future I’m hoping to make a little more time for photography and pursue it on a more serious level.
I’ve had some unique opportunities to travel and visit some great places, and many of the photographs here on the site are from those travels. I hope you enjoy some of the images I have captured over the years, I hope you’ll leave comments and criticisms, and I hope you’ll share some of your favorites with your family and friends.
Kindly,
Derek Rippe
