When I find myself visiting some place that may present an opportunity to photograph some animals, I usually get pretty excited about it… even if it is the National Aquarium at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland, which is where I snapped this photo.
Taking good photographs in a place like the Baltimore Aquarium presents a lot of challenges. For starters, there is the sheer amount of people bustling about, often times with rambunctious little children, that tend to get in the way. There is also the lack of bright, natural sunlight to light your subjects. Coupled with other challenges, I usually find myself shooting in full manual mode and doing a lot of trial and error.
But this photograph has become one of my favorite to date, which is why you’ll also find it in my home in the form of a 36″ x 24″ canvas print hanging on the wall.
